AWAITING UPDATE
UPDATE
Sue
Casemore, Jeanne Hinton, Zandra Lacey and Louise Baxter
(Community Development Worker for Mutley Greenbank
Trust) met at the Fortescue on Wednesday, 24 January. for
a conversation about
Planet Mutley.
Recent meetings set up have been cancelled for lack of
attendance, but the four of us are now proposing the following:
¨
That we begin to plan an event to take place in Moor View Park
on August Bank Holiday Monday, 27 August. We need to start
planning soon. We will begin to ask musicians if they are
willing to play for us. It is possible that we can get
Watershed, Mad Dog McCrea and The Old Signs, all of whom have
expressed an interest already. Louise will try to get MGT’s
Families Worker, Anne Brindley, on board and has some good
contacts from Open Doors’ last Family Fun Day who might help
with activities for children.
¨
We discussed the possibility of staging a larger annual event
for Mutley beginning next year. This will be more like a
carnival, with street events (street performance, markets etc.)
during the week preceding the fun day in the park. We would
like to be able to have a carnival procession travelling
northbound along the length of Mutley Plain, around the Hyde
Park roundabout and down the other side of the Plain
southbound, turning off by the Fortescue and terminating in Moor
View Park. This will be a huge project and will require a lot
of planning. We discussed asking councillors from Drake and
Compton wards (probably Karen and David) to get involved and to
help with things like road closure for the carnival procession.
We also need to recruit more community members with the
enthusiasm needed to get this off the ground.
¨
That we continue to look for ways to take forward the
regeneration of Moor View Gardens. Some members of
Planet Mutley
are active in the plans to set up a Mutley Meeting Place
(a community meeting place for Mutley). As progress is made
here it may be possible to include the regeneration of Moor View
Gardens as part of a larger plan for Mutley. MGT is
supporting work on the park as part of their Open Spaces
initiatives.
¨
That we have a display publicising the activities of
Planet Mutley
at the next public meeting to do with the Mutley Meeting
Place. We need to draw in new members to enable
Planet Mutley
to continue to be effective in the community. Community groups
in Mutley are needed more, not less, as the Meeting
Place initiative gathers momentum.
Another
meeting for
Planet Mutley
has been set for Wednesday 7 March at 7.30pm at The Lodge at the
back of Mutley Baptist Church. PLEASE COME !
